Teofimo Lopez makes one thing clear ahead of his upcoming title clash with Rolando “Rolly” Romero: when the bell rings, business comes first.
Speaking with boxing media, the WBO super lightweight champion fielded questions on several hot topics—from Keyshawn Davis walking away from a $2M-plus fight with Devin Haney to the personal and financial history surrounding his matchup with Rolly.

On Keyshawn Davis turning down the Devin Haney fight:
“I mean, it’s confusing. From the outside looking in, we can only speculate, but it might just be an issue he’s dealing with Top Rank. That could very well be the problem right there. I’ve had my own share of issues with Top Rank in the past, so I wouldn’t be surprised. But hey, he’s back in training, so we’ll see what happens.”
On Rolly’s claim that he once loaned him $5,000:
“I lent him $20,000! $15k of that was for a Rolex that he allegedly took from somebody else. And then I even covered money for his sister at one point… So yeah, I know for a fact I paid him $15k plus another $5k.”
On fighting someone considered a close friend:
“Not a good friend, man. A good friend wouldn’t do this. He took the fight. He was the champ—he is the champ. He didn’t have to accept it, but he took it for his own reasons. So, we’ll settle the score afterwards.”
On whether he would have accepted the $2.1M+ offer turned down by Keyshawn for a title shot:
“Man, I’ve taken fights for a million! So yeah, I was definitely surprised he turned it down. That right there is what’s wrong with this sport.”
