The controversy started when coach Din Thomas abruptly announced his cornering retirement following Gillian Robertson’s loss at UFC 330, prompting harsh insults from Strickland. Woodley stepped in via Instagram DMs to defend his former head coach, leading to Strickland leaking part of their exchange.

“Din Thomas is like a brother to me, and I’m ride-or-die for my people. Strickland chose to share our direct messages, but what he didn’t show is that we actually ended the conversation with mutual respect.”
“He loves playing the villain online, but these guys are always quick to hug and say ‘I was just kidding’ right after the fight. It’s not real beef. I didn’t threaten him, but if I see him in person, I’ll say the exact same thing to his face.”
Woodley gave these comments ahead of his matchup against Joaquin Buckley at RAF 12 on August 22nd.
