Panamanian Upset: Orlando Mosquera Outboxes Undefeated Prospect Jonathan Miniel for Welterweight Crown

Full event breakdown from Panama City as “El Virus” claims national gold in a tactical masterclass.

On September 5 at the Atheyna Bylon Training Center in Panama City, 28-year-old Orlando “El Virus” Mosquera (16-5-1, 3 KOs) delivered an upset victory over previously undefeated power-puncher Jonathan Miniel (9-1, 8 KOs) to capture the vacant Panamanian welterweight championship over 10 rounds.

Utilizing ring craft honed in international bouts across Abu Dhabi and South America, Mosquera established his jab early and repeatedly neutralized Miniel’s power. In the 6th round, Mosquera landed a hard right hand that sent Miniel to the canvas; however, referee Hector Afu controversially ruled it a slip. Miniel subsequently surrendered a point for repeated low blows. Scores read 96-93, 96-93, and 97-92 all in favor of Mosquera.
