Promoter Eddie Hearn (Matchroom) is shaking up the combat sports world after claiming that the UFC’s long-standing monopoly in mixed martial arts is about to face severe disruption. According to Hearn, the threat isn’t ongoing lawsuits—it’s heavy-hitting competition.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, the British boxing head insisted he has inside knowledge of major moves happening behind the scenes:
“TKO and UFC don’t want fighters to have any choice or options. They want to be the only shop in town and the only way to build a career. The moment competitive offers start coming in, it’s going to be a disaster for them. I know for a fact that major players are entering the market very soon.”
While previous competitors like Bellator and PFL attempted to challenge the UFC with bigger paychecks, they struggled to maintain momentum or disrupt UFC’s market control. Hearn, however, believes the upcoming shift will be entirely different, putting top-tier fighters in the driver’s seat.
“If you’re a free agent or close to it, you’re in a dream position right now—especially if you have high market value. A guy like Paulo Costa is a prime example.”
