Weightlifter Ecaterina Vîlcu secured a bronze medal at the European U-15 & U-17 Weightlifting Championships in Kosovo. Competing in the U-17 under-45 kg weight category, the 16-year-old athlete achieved a total lift of 129 kg.
She took third place in the snatch with a 59 kg lift and finished fourth in the clean and jerk with 70 kg. Her overall total of 129 kg earned her the bronze medal in the total classification.
Vîlcu was the first Moldovan athlete to compete at this year’s tournament. Moldova is also represented in the U-17 category by Nicolai Chihai, Alexandr Ceban, Marius Manoli, Gabriela Danilov, and Nicoleta Cojocaru. The U-15 squad includes Ilia Costic, Tudor Cristea, Alexandru Stratulat, Iulian Danalachi, Maxim Chiricu, and Dmitrii Boscov. The championships take place in Kosovo from August 20 to 27.
