UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev put on another dominant performance at UFC 330, overcoming early power shots from Ian Machado Garry to secure a unanimous decision win. The victory saw Makhachev break Anderson Silva’s historic record for the most consecutive wins in UFC history. However, it was his post-fight celebration—hoisting two championship belts in a nod to his former lightweight title—that sparked friction with Max Holloway.
During a recent livestream, Holloway took aim at Makhachev’s display, questioning the legitimacy of holding two belts after defending just one.
“Why the f*** does he have two belts? Aura?” Holloway said. “It is what it is, bro. I mean, you are, but you’re not! Temporary, but you just defended one belt.”
Makhachev wasted little time firing back at the former BMF champion on Instagram:
“I don’t know bro. It’s not even too heavy to hold. But you don’t understand, sorry,” Makhachev wrote.
Holloway, who is coming off a quick victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 329, is expected to return to action next year, with rumors pointing toward a potential trilogy fight against McGregor once the Irishman’s leg fully heals.
