On September 7, Donald Trump surprised the MMA community by posting a nearly six-minute highlight reel of Moldovan UFC light heavyweight Ion Cuțelaba on Truth Social. The post was shared without any caption, context, or explanation. Cuțelaba himself reacted with surprise, admitting he never expected to see his highlights on the President’s page.
What could be behind this unexpected post?
-
Pure Fan Appreciation (Most Likely) Trump is a long-time fight fan and a regular fixture at UFC events. With his aggressive style, knockout power, and fiery “Hulk” persona, Cuțelaba fits the exact mold of a fighter Trump enjoys watching. The absence of political text suggests he simply liked the footage.

A Tie-In with Future UFC Events MMA outlets quickly speculated whether this could hint at Cuțelaba’s inclusion in an upcoming major UFC card (including rumored White House events). However, there is currently no official confirmation that the post implies a fight announcement or promotional agreement.

The Moldovan Connection As one of Moldova’s most prominent international athletes, Cuțelaba proudly represents his country. Trump might have deliberately showcased the “Moldovan Hulk” to his audience, though reading deep diplomatic motives into the gesture remains speculative.
The Real Enigma: The Format Instead of adding a statement like “I support Moldova” or “Ion is a great fighter,” Trump simply dropped six minutes of action. Outlets like MMA Mania labeled the post a mystery, listing theories ranging from simple fight fandom to wild speculation.
