Our athletes are proving their high class once again! At the World Canoe Sprint Championships held in Poznań, Poland, Moldovan canoeists demonstrated excellent preparation and firmly secured their places among the world’s top ten.
The leader of the national team, Serghei Tarnovschi, stopped just one step away from the podium. In an incredibly tense 1000m C1 final, he took fourth place. The competition at the finish line was fierce: the gold was claimed by the Czech Martin Fuksa with a time of 4:07.44, the silver with the exact same time was snatched by the Hungarian Dániel Fejes, and the bronze went to neutral athlete Zakhar Petrov (4:07.46). Our champion was just a fraction of a second away from a medal.
Our women’s team performed equally well. The duo of Elena Glizan and Daniela Cociu in the 500m C2 race crossed the finish line in sixth place, clocking a great time of 2:04.22. Furthermore, Elena Glizan showed phenomenal endurance in the 5000m C1 marathon distance, taking an honorable eighth place with a time of 32:41.15.
In the men’s double events (C2, 500m), Mihai Chihaia and Oleg Tarnovschi also entered the global top, finishing their race in seventh place with a time of 1:46.25.
We are proud of our rowers and their dedication. Go, Moldova!
