Glover Teixeira Dominates Shogun Rua in Boxing Debut, Eyes Alexander Gustafsson Rematch

Glover Teixeira is open to boxing more of his former MMA rivals! On Saturday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Teixeira dominated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua to win an eight-round unanimous decision at the Spaten Fight Night 3 heavyweight main event.

In his boxing debut, Teixeira rocked Rua multiple times and scored a knockdown. Following the dominant win, he stated he would gladly accept a rematch under boxing rules against Alexander Gustafsson in 2027. Gustafsson’s team had previously told MMA Fighting they were interested in boxing the winner of the bout.

Teixeira’s Key Takeaways:

  • On fighting Gustafsson: “One hundred percent,” Teixeira said. “I felt good. A little bit of ring rust after three and a half years out, but coming back is amazing. Whatever fights make sense, I’ll be fighting.” (Gustafsson previously knocked out Teixeira in the UFC in 2017).

  • On Shogun’s toughness: “I thought I was gonna finish with a knockout after dropping him in the third, but Shogun is as tough as can be. The heart—he wouldn’t quit. I tried too hard for the KO and had to pace myself later, but I’m happy it went my way.”

  • On his performance: “My goal was to have a good performance. I saw his punches; they weren’t hurting me. I trained hard for it, and I’m happy with how I did.”
